Why choosing the right, professional boudoir photographer is detrimental to your entire experience | Boudoir Photography Studio in Reading Massachusetts

When most people consider hiring a photographer, the first thing they do is check out their work. This, of course is very important. You need to love the photographer’s overall style, but, did you know there are way more things to look out for, especially when walking into such an intimate portrait session.

Boudoir photo sessions can give women so much increased self confidence, self worth, and really improve every day lives, long after the session is over. We have seen it first hand, how it empowers her and allows her to see herself differently. It reconnects her to her most feminine side, that she might not always make time for.

Unfortunately, we have heard horror stories of careless so called “photographers”, who haven’t taken the time to truly learn their craft as well as learn how to support and motivate a woman through such a vulnerable experience. A boudoir photo session with the wrong, inexperienced photographer can do serious damage to a woman’s self-esteem and mental health. That is the absolute last thing we want for any woman wanting this experience.

During a boudoir portrait session, most likely with a woman who has never done anything like this ever before in her life, a photographer should be the client’s biggest cheerleader. This means making sure they always feel safe, comfortable and supported. This also means, they should be being careful with their words. Each client needs different support and motivation during a session. Getting to know each other before the session really helps with making the session comfortable for everyone. This could be through phone calls and emails and just having multiple touch points before the day of the session.

Your photographer should have advanced lighting and posing skills. This makes a huge difference when showcasing a woman’s body, especially when that woman might already be insecure. We truly believe EVERY woman can be absolutely stunning in photos, but, even the most “perfect” human can be captured in bad lighting and bad angles. Flattering posing for photography is a skill that most of us take time to master if we want to get paid professionally for our work. It makes a HUGE difference!

If your photographer is offering hair and makeup services, it is very important they also use someone who is skilled in these services for photos. Bad makeup will not look any better under professional lighting.

Our makeup artist, Michelle DeVoe of Demiche Beaute is absolutely amazing! We are very lucky to have found her!

The bottom line is, women are STRONG, but our confidence is fragile and most likely if a woman is coming in for a boudoir portrait session, she might already be in a place where she is looking for a confidence boost, “pick-me-up”. We here at The Swan Boudoir Studio do not take that lightly. We value the fact that our clients are putting their trust, confidence and mental health in our hands. We do everything we can to give the most amazing and empowering boudoir portrait experience ever! We have total confidence that the service we give will only effect you in a positive way and that you will carry it with you forever.

Our best advice would be, talk to former clients, ask questions, read reviews, join the studios private facebook group and get a feel for who they are as a person. Have many interactions before going in for your session, on the phone or through email or social media. Really get to know, like and trust them, before walking into their space.
