Where to shop for your boudoir photo shoot |Planning your boudoir photo session | Boudoir Photography Studio in Reading, MA

Hi there! I am Tara, owner and photographer at The Swan Boudoir Studio By Tara Starr Photography.

Thanks for checking out our studio!

We know how overwhelming it can be to plan for something you have never done before. That’s why, all of our amazing clients get access to a complete Prep Guide when booking a session here at The Swan.

Here are just a few tips when planning what you will wear during your session.

There are several different looks to consider for your session. It doesn’t always need to be about lingerie, but for this blog post, that’s what we will focus on.

In our Prep Guide we go over what colors and styles look best for your boudoir photo shoot. You might have something that looks amazing on you, but it doesn't mean it will photograph well, or match the setting that you are shooting in. Remember it all has to work together to create beautiful photos. Choosing the right colors for your skin tones as well as not to overpower the images is super important. You also want to make sure you match the setting you are shooting in. Our studio is very soft, neutral and light. We use creams and grays and blacks to keep everything with a timeless bedroom feel. Choosing trendy outfits with crazy patterns might make you look back on the photos down the road and make you think, “what was I wearing?” That’s the last thing we want for such a special photo session.

Black lace works on everyone, we say at least one black lace bodysuit is a must! Creams look better than white, in my opinion. White looks very stark, creams are softer and much more flattering to most complexions. We say to avoid loud, bright colors and busy patterns, but if you want a color pop, deep jewel tones are gorgeous. Emerald green, navy, deep wine or plum look absolutely stunning in photos, where bright colors like neons or anything you would find in the rainbow can take over the images and we want to keep them about you, not your clothes.

Make sure your outfits fit you properly. We can pose you in the most flattering way, in the best lighting possible, but if your outfits have straps that are too tight or too loose or ill fitting cups or bottoms, it will all show in the images. Avoid flowing outfits with extra material. You aren’t hiding anything and will end up looking like you are wearing a maternity outfit no matter what your body type is. Not the look you are going for, unless you in fact are pregnant. The truth is, no matter if you are a size 0 or 22, fitted bodysuits or sets look stunning on EVERYONE! The whole point of the session is for you to see that there is nothing wrong with your body exactly the way it is! We got you! Chose outfits you love, that fit you well and we will pose you and capture your best most flattering angles and make you love and appreciate the skin you are in without changing anything about your body! We have shot every single body type and know what we are doing!
